Ryan Gregorio

He is also a former player and coach for the UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP, before coaching in the pro league in 2002. He is a two-time PBA Champion Coach and a two-time PBA Coach of the Year awardee. He also has the distinction of being the 1st and only coach in the league history to win a championship as an interim coach in 2002.
Career
Prior to his coaching chores with Purefoods, Gregorio was a former player and coach of the UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP and was an assistant coach of Eric Altarimano with Purefoods.
However, in 2002, Altamirano was hired as an assistant coach for the Philippine national basketball team and Gregorio was named as the interim coach of the TJ Hotdogs. Under Gregorio's hands, Purefoods won the 2002 Governor's Cup with a 4-3 series victory over the Alaska Aces. The team was paraded by imports Derrick Brown, Kelvin Price and Best Player of the Conference winner Rey Evangelista. Gregorio coached the team to a dismal performance in the Commissioners Cup before Altarimano regained coaching duties in the All-Filipino Cup. Despite this Gregorio was rewarded, along with Coca Cola Tigers mentor Chot Reyes as co-winner of the PBA Press Corps Coach of the Year Award.
In 2003, Gregorio became the full-time head coach of Purefoods, after Altamirano was tasked to head the San Miguel All-Stars team. In his first season as full-time coach, the TJ Hotdogs won only nine games that year, the worst performance of any team during the season.
Re-Building the Giants
In the 2004-05 season, Gregorio coached a Purefoods team, retooled with amateur stars James Yap, Paul Artadi, Peter June Simon and the vastly improving Kerby Raymundo. Despite Purefoods' sorry stint in the 2004 Fiesta Conference, Purefoods went on to finish two quarterfinals' stints in the Philippine Cup and the 2005 Fiesta Conference.
The Championship Run
The 2005-06 PBA season would be Gregorio's finest season yet, he would lead the Purefoods Chunkee Giants to two finals appearances, a runner-up finish in the 2005-06 Fiesta Conference, and a CHAMPIONSHIP against Red Bull in the Philippine Cup Finals, winning in 6 games, 4-2. Under his leadership, JAMES YAP won the PBA MVP Award/Mythical 1st Team, MARC PINGRIS won the Most Improved Player Award/Defensive Player of the Year/Defensive Team/Mythical 2nd Team/Finals MVP, KERBY RAYMUNDO and ROGER YAP made it to the Mythical 1st Team selection. He once again coached his team to its 2nd Championship in the last 4 years. The 2006 success earned him his 2nd Coach of the Year Award and stamped his position as one of the best young coaches in the country.
2007-08 All-Filipino Finals Appearance
Gregorio started the 2007-2008 season with a bang. He led his team to a 5-game sweep of the pre-tournament games and would eventually bag the Pre-Tournament Championship. He would continue his mastery of the All-Filipino Conference as he led his team to a 7-0 start and finish with 12 wins and 6 losses, enough to push the team to the Semi-Finals. He would lead his team to another trip to the Finals, his 3rd in the last 5 conferences. However, his team would eventually lose to Sta. Lucia in 7 games via a controversial series.
2-Time All-Star Coach
In the 2005 Annual All-Star Game held in Laoag City, Gregorio would lead the NORTH All-Star to victory over the SOUTH All-Star. He would again coach the 2008 NORTH All-Star in Bacolod City, but this time he would lose against the SOUTH All-Star in overtime.

Jong Uichico

Joseph Enrique Uichico, better known as Jong Uichico, is a Filipino professional basketball head coach for the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the Philippine Basketball Association. Uichico is a former Philippines national basketball team Youth member and a former player and head coach of the La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP before replacing Ron Jacobs as SMB coach in 1999. Uichico was coach of the San Miguel Beermen from 1999-2006 leading the Beermen to six PBA champioships.
Basketball career
Uichico played for the La Salle Green Archers in the collegiate ranks. He was a member of the 1982 RP Youth Team that won the ABC Under-18 Championship. After a stint with the famed Northern Consolidated Cement squad of Ron Jacobs, Uichico ended his basketball career early.
Coaching career
In the mid-90's, Uichico had a coaching stint with the Green Archers and guided them to two runner-up trophies. He also joined the Magnolia Beverage Masters coaching staff during Norman Black and Jacobs tenure. In 1999, Uichico became the new head coach of the Beermen after Jacobs' departure.
After an early elimination in the All-Filipino Cup, he coached the Beermen to the Commissioner and Governors Cup titles during the 1999 campaign, ending San Miguel's five-year title drought. He is also the first rookie coach to lead his team to back-to-back titles in the same year, a feat duplicated by Siot Tanquincen in 2005.
In 2000, Uichico once again guided San Miguel to two more titles and laid claim to his first and only Coach of the Year plum. His first All-Filipino Cup title with the Beermen came in 2001, defeating sister team Barangay Ginebra Kings.
Ron Jacobs appointed Uichico as one of his assistants for the RP team's 2002 Asian Games campaign. However, after Jacobs suffered a stroke, Uichico was named as the new head coach of the national squad. Uichico guided the Philippines to a fourth-place finish in the event. Their semifinal loss against eventual tournament winner South Korea was a crushing blow for Uichico's squad losing by one point on a Lee Sang Min triple in the final seconds. Despite the loss, the team still brought home what is known to Filipino basketball fans as, "The Silent Gold".
He returned as San Miguel's head coach after the Asian Games campaign, but went on a four-year title drought before winning his sixth PBA title in six years, the 2005 Fiesta Conference, as the Beermen defeated the Talk 'N Text Phone Pals, 4-1. Uichico is also serving as one of the assistant coaches of Team Pilipinas, with Chot Reyes as head coach.
Barangay Ginebra Head Coach
On August 3, 2006, Chot Reyes was named as the new head coach of the San Miguel Beermen replacing Uichico. However, San Miguel Corporation moved Uichico to its sister team Barangay Ginebra Kings replacing Siot Tanquincen, who was demoted as Uichico's assistant. On his first Ginebra coaching stint, he was able to win a championship in the first conference of the year's season. After a year he won his 2nd chmpionship with the Kings in the 2008 PBA Fiesta Conference and his 8th overall title.

Tim Cone

Earl Timothy Cone, better known as Tim Cone, is the American head coach of the Alaska Aces in the Philippine Basketball Association. He is known for leading the Aces to 12 PBA titles in its franchise history while leading the 1996 Milkmen to a rare PBA Grandslam. He also once coached the Philippine Centennial Basketball Team in 1998.

Coaching career

In 1989, Cone took over as the coach of the Alaska Air Force with players such as the famed Bruise Brothers duo of Yoyoy Villamin and Ricky Relosa, and Abet Guidaben. A year later, Cone led the Air Force to the finals of the 1990 PBA Third Conference. But, Alaska blew a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series to suffer one of the biggest collapses in PBA history, losing to Purefoods in five games. But in 1991, Alaska won its first championship by defeating Ginebra San Miguel in the 3rd Conference. That team was led by Eugene Quilban and Bong Alvarez.

After several struggles, Cone's team would have a strong team of locals Johnny Abarrientos, Jojo Lastimosa, Bong Hawkins, Jeffrey Cariaso and Edward Juinio, while having import Sean Chambers for the Milkmen. From 1994-1998, the Milkmen won eight titles in 14 conferences during the stretch. The highlight of that run though would come in the 1996 season, when Alaska won the coveted PBA Grand Slam, becoming the third franchise and the fourth team to win a Grand Slam in the history of the PBA.

While Alaska continued to dominate by adding Kenneth Duremdes in 1997. Duremdes, playing a limited role with the Pop Cola franchise, rose up to the occasion in 1998 under Cone's tutelage, winning the PBA Most Valuable Player Award at 24 years of age. That year, Cone was hired as the coach of the Philippine Centennial Team led by Duremdes, Abarrientos, Lastimosa, three players on Cone's Alaska team, and PBA stars Alvin Patrimonio, Marlou Aquino and Allan Caidic. That team won a bronze medal in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Alaska won the 2000 All-Filipino Cup, but afterwards, the team rebuild trading away several remnants of the old Alaska. Cone, however, would lead the young team of John Arigo and Ali Peek to runner-up finishes in the 2002 Governors and All-Filipino Cup. A year later, the Aces added UAAP star Mike Cortez and fil-am Brandon Cablay, leading Alaska to the 2003 PBA Invitational Cup championship, Cone's 11th title.

New Contract

On July 17, 2006 Manila Standard reported that Alaska is set to terminate Cone depending on a meeting between both parties after Cone's contract with the Aces expired on July 15. Rumors also speculated that his replacement will be his former assistant, current National team mentor Chot Reyes, with Cone staying on as team consultant. [1]

However, a day later, the Aces' official website reported that Cone has agreed to a new deal to stay on as the team's head coach for the 2006-07 PBA season. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. [2]

Trivia

  • Cone is known as the only head coach in the PBA to wear a long sleeve and a tie during games. He has once wore a short sleeve in 2006 before reverting back to his usual look. His past assistants Joel Banal and Chot Reyes has taken the practice as well in multiple occasions.

Bo Perasol

Dolreich "Bo" Perasol is a Filipino professional basketball assistant head coach of the Coca-Cola Tigers in the Philippine Basketball Association.

About Bo
Perasol is a former player and team captain for the UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP from the year 1990-1995. He is among the few athletes of that premiere university who actually passed the UP College Admission Test, a rigorous entrance examination given to high school students in the Philippines. He graduated with a degree in Mass Communications in the year 1994 in the same university. Perasol, who is known to close friends by his moniker "Bo", is a man of few words, smart and confident beyond his years, and was thus regarded during his college days, as a great friend and an esteemed leader; one who was included in the elite circle of UP students most likely to succeed and be popular in his chosen field. After his stint at the university, he became the coach for the UP Fighting Maroons Juniors, which became his training ground as a coach, before making his PBA coaching debut with Air21 in the 2005-06 PBA season.
Air21 Express head coach
In the 2005-06 season, Perasol replaced Bong Ramos as head coach of the Air21 Express, previously named as the FedEx Express. Many expected Air21 to drop as low as last place for the coming season and had a bulky yet untested import Shawn Daniels for the Fiesta Conference.
In the 2005-06 PBA Fiesta Conference, Perasol and the Express became the surprise team of the tournament. Air21 finished fifth in the classification phase but pulled huge upsets over the San Miguel Beermen and the Talk N' Text Phone Pals in the Wild-Card and Quarterfinal rounds, respectively. The Express lost in six games to the Purefoods Chunkee Giants in the semifinals, but won a one-game match for third-place over Barangay Ginebra Kings, their best finish in franchise history.
Despite Air21's poor finish in the 2006 PBA Philippine Cup, the Express were able to finish off strong in the classification phase after star player Ren-Ren Ritualo was traded to Talk N Text.
Perasol's system follow the same philosophy of the Air21 management, relying on a 12 man rotation and a run-and-gun type of basketball system.
In 2009, he resigned as Air21 head coach despite leading Air21 to greater heights.
Coca-Cola Tigers basketball operations manager
Just recently, he was hired by JB Baylon as Kenneth Duremdes' assistant coach and director of basketball operations. Thou, it will not affect his working experience with Airfreight 2100, Inc.

Siot Tanquincen

Berthune "Siot" Tanquincen is a Filipino professional basketball head coach of the San Miguel Beermen in the Philippine Basketball Association. Prior to his current role, he was former player for the UST Growling Tigers in the UAAP, the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA and the Pampanga Dragons in the Metropolitan Basketball Association. Tanquincen led Ginebra to two PBA titles as its head coach from 2004-2006.He studied at Philippine Cultural High School(Annex).

He was demoted to assistant coach prior to the start of the season to give way to the arrival of Jong Uichico.

Basketball career

Tanquincen was one of the role players for the UST Tigers in their historic four-peat from 1993-1996 under head coach Aric Del Rosario. Other members of the said squad were Chris Cantonjos, Estong Ballesteros, Rey Evangelista, Dennis Espino and Bal David.

He also played for the San Miguel Beermen from 1997-1998 as a 12th man for the team. In 1999, he joined his former UST mentor Del Rosario in the MBA's Pampanga Dragons, usually as its starting point guard.

Coaching career

San Miguel under Jong Uichico

After his stint with the Dragons, Tanquincen became the assistant coach of the San Miguel Beermen under Jong Uichico. In 2002, Tanquincen was the team's interim coach with Uichico tasked to lead the Philippine national basketball team in the 2002 Asian Games. Despite a limited lineup of Dorian Pena, Boybits Victoria and imports Lamont Strothers, Art Long, Shea Seals and Terquin Mott, he coached the Beermen to a respectable fourth place finish in the Governors Cup and finished third in the Commissioners Cup.

Barangay Ginebra Kings as head coach: 2004-2006

Tanquincen would return to his assistant duties for the next two seasons. However, midway through the 2004 PBA Fiesta Conference, Barangay Ginebra mentor Allan Caidic was relegated as team manager and hired Tanquincen from its sister team as its new head coach.

The change led to changes in the Ginebra system, as Tanquincen used more of Jayjay Helterbrand on the point guard spot instead of the inconsistent and injured Bal David. This and other changes led to the Kings' improbable championship in the said conference, defeating Red Bull Barako, 3-1.

In the 2004-05 Philippine Cup, Tanquincen once again led the crowd-favorites to its first back-to-back title in franchise history after defeating the Talk 'N Text Phone Pals in six games.

2006-07 Philippine Cup: Demotion and Move to Interim Coach

During the 2006 offseason, Jong Uichico was named as the new head coach of the Barangay Ginebra Kings, after a big overhaul by almost all of the four PBA teams of San Miguel Corporation. Tanquincen, however, was demoted as Uichico's assistant, reprising the role he had with the Beermen.

Despite the limited role, Tanquincen is normally spotted mapping out offensive sets for the Kings during timeouts as Uichico looks on. The Kings would eventually won the Philippine Cup as an assistant defeating sister company, the Beermen after winning the last four games following a 0-2 hole.

2007: San Miguel's coach

In the 2007 PBA Fiesta Conference, Tanquincen was sent back to San Miguel as an interim coach for Chot Reyes, who focused his role as head of the Philippine national basketball team. At the time Tanquincen was named head coach, San Miguel struggled with a 0-6 record, and eventually posted a 1-7 card.

But, the Beermen began a surprise run in the tournament, that began with an eight-game winning streak, before finishing with a 10-8 record, and a wild-card appearance.

In a wildcard match against the Coca-Cola Tigers for the final quarterfinals berth, San Miguel won a 102-101 miracle score despite trailing by four points with only 13 seconds left.

Their run continued in the quarterfinals, scoring an upset against his former team, Barangay Ginebra, in the best-of-three series before falling to eventual champion Alaska Aces in a grueling six-game tussle.

Tanquincen remains to be the head coach of San Miguel.
