Caloy Garcia

Early life

He studied at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and briefly played for the Dazz Dishwashing Paste at the PBL. His cousin is Harbour Centre Batang Pier head coach Jorge Gallent, also a Benildean. He assisted Garcia at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Welcoat Paintmasters prior to his winning run with the Batang Pier.

Coaching career

Welcoat assistant coach (PBL)

He assisted Leo Austria at Welcoat Paintmasters from 2002 to 2004.

Welcoat/Rain or Shine Head coach (PBL)

He was the head coach of the Welcoat Paintmasters from 2005 up to its last year 2006. He even led them to a PBL title (Unity Cup) in 2005 defeating the Monatana Pawnshop, 3-1 thanks to new recruit Anthony Washington.

CSB coach

He was hired in 2005 to replace Tonichi Ytturi. Under him, he produced a NCAA MVP by the name of Jay Sagad. Later, he led them to 5-9, 3-11, and 1-11 record respectively. He was later replaced by Gee Abanilla.

Welcoat assistant coach (PBA)

He again assisted Leo Austria at Welcoat Paintmasters from 2006 to 2008 until Austria resigned after the Philippine Cup.

Welcoat/Rain or Shine Head coach (PBA)

He was hired by Mondragon as the interim coach of the Dragons team. He led them to a 3-15 record, 10th place but one of his "forgettable" upsets are his sweep against Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants. Today, he is looking forward to lead them into greater heights, thanks to new recruits Solomon Mercado, Gabe Norwood, and the improving Jay-R Reyes. For the record, he had a 10 wins, 8 losses , a big improvement from the first 2 seasons. But they were knocked out by the Sta. Lucia Realtors in the quarters.
